Even before the pandemic, the architecture firm Perkins Eastman was aware that it had already overrun its facility in Pittsburgh. Their workspace, which was the oldest of the company’s 23 studios worldwide outside of its headquarters in New York, had become ill-suited for the fluid nature of design projects due to an overly restrictive floorplan that was primarily dedicated to individual “me space” rather than collaborative “we space.” The pandemic then occurred, which compelled the Best Architects in Lahore company to switch to a new business model.
In May of 2021, following several months of working from a distance, the Best Architects in Lahore company inaugurated a new studio. Employees made a slow transition back to work in person, and in February 2022, they began their official return-to-office schedules, which included some hybrid elements. The current location of Perkins Eastman’s office makes it possible for employees. Because to move fluidly through the design process by providing spaces. Work that is mold to fit the available real estate
After nearly three decades, the architects and designers working at Perkins Eastman began to feel the confines of their office needed to be more relaxed. Jeff Young, one of the co-managing principals, describes the area they leased as “leftover office space” that, over time, “had grown really tired.” The area was on the ground floor of a building that had formerly served as a train station. Although the space was beautiful and historical, they were looking for something else.
Workstations, each with its specific location, took up most of the available area. There needed to be more areas for collaborative work for groups of varying sizes because there were only three conference rooms in the form of a boardroom. The employees frequently found themselves having conversations with one or two other coworkers while huddled together in a spacious conference room or leaning on another employee’s desk. Because they did not have any tables that were large enough to roll out the massive designs, they instead spread them out on the floor to discuss them.

As the pandemic was getting start, the Perkins Eastman Pittsburgh studio leadership had already begain. So looking for a new location because their current contract was going to expire in April of 2021. When the office decided to allow their employees to work from home, they also paused finding a new office space. They signed a letter of intent with the landlord, who would eventually become their landlord, but they still needed to sign a contract.
Perkins Eastman decided to experiment with using the additional time they had gained due to the pandemic’s disruption of normal business operations. Young reflects, “From the firm’s executive committee all the way down to the leadership here in Pittsburgh, we came to a conclusion and made a decision jointly.” “And we said, ‘Hey, do you know what?’ This is an excellent opportunity for us to act as guinea pigs and to establish a real-time experiment regarding what the potential state of workplaces in the future could be.
