Sara Ali Khan reveals her ‘three levels of success’: perceptual, mental and internal, and the actor says her latest film Zara Hatke Zara Bachke helped her with all of them.

Romantic comedy Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, also starring Vicky Kaushal, recently completed 30 days in theaters and has crossed the Rs 80 crore mark at the domestic box office.

While money and appreciation of work by family are important, Sara said knowing that she gave her 100 per cent to the role is the ultimate success.

“For me, there are three levels of success. There is conceptual success | Vicky, Dino sir and I said, (when) the film will make Rs 50 crore, we will be a public success. Right now, Touchwood, we are touching Rs 85 crore.

“There is a mental breakthrough when my mother and my brother like my work. I take pride in my work. Ultimately, there is truly inner success that comes the day you realize you have given your 100 percent. To be able to give your 100 per cent every day is the only success that is not shaky,” the 27-year-old actor told PTI.

Asked if his latest film helped him achieve all three levels of success, he replied: “Yes, definitely.”

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke released across the cinema halls on 2 June. Set in Indore, the film follows the story of a married couple Kapil and Saumya, played by Vicky and Sara, who are headed for a ‘divorce’.

The actor said she is “relieved” by the success of the film, which is her first theatrical release after 2020’s Love Aaj Kal. His last three films Coolie No. 1, Atrangi Re and Gaslight premiered directly on streamers.

“I was coming back to the big screen after a very long time… I was very scared. People used to say don’t know what will happen. It was a routine Friday worry but I am very happy and very relieved.”

At a time when audiences are “very emotionally intelligent”, Sara said an honest film would hit anyone.

“There was a simplicity to the film. It’s not like there are five ups and downs and you’re asking me what was the biggest expense. This is a simple story. Being Saumya with Vicky as Kapil under the guidance of Laxman sir was most special for me,” she said.

Next in the pipeline for the actor are the period drama Ae Watan Mere Watan, Anurag Basu’s film anthology Metro… In Dino and Homi Adajania’s Murder Mubarak.

“In the upcoming films, I aspire for versatility. I just want to move forward with every film and every filmmaker,’ said Sara.
