 Solution 1: Verify the Location of the QuickBooks Company File to Resolve the Error

  • First, access QuickBooks and press the F2 key on your keyboard.
  • Now note down the company file location from the Product Information window inside the File Information section.
  • Now head to the file location and ensure the QuickBooks company file is still there.
  • In case you don’t find the company file inside the QuickBooks folder, then look for the company file from the Search Programs and Files search box.
  • Now type.qbw, and once the system displays all the files with the .qbw extension, right-click the correct company file.
  • Choose Open File Location and move the company file to the correct folder and open it in QuickBooks.

Solution 2: Rename the QuickBooks Company File to Eliminate the Error 

QuickBooks can only launch a company file whose name is up to or less than 64 characters, so if you suspect that your company file name is more than 64 characters, edit it to shorten its name.

  • Start by opening the folder containing the company file, then right-click the company file and select Rename.
  • Now ensure the total number of characters in the company file name is 64, including the four characters of the .qbw file extension.
  • In case the file name is too long, shorten it and save it, then attempt to open the company file once again in QuickBooks.

Solution 3: Run the verify and rebuild Utility to Rectify QuickBooks Error Code 6147 

Verifying the data helps in finding the errors in QuickBooks and rebuilding utility attempts to fix the errors. 

  • Firstly in the QB Desktop, visit the File menu, then choose the Utility option and hit the Verify data button.
